Getting Started with 3D Printing

creality crash course title page.png

This Articulate Storyline course was designed to introduce ninth grade STEM students to 3D printing through an interactive 3D model and simulated animations, transforming a hands-on technical skill into an engaging, self-directed digital learning experience.

The course is built around three core learning objectives:

  • Identify the key components of a 3D printer

  • Perform basic setup for a 3D print

  • Recognize and troubleshoot common issues and errors

Each objective is broken into four modular sections, allowing learners to progress at their own pace based on prior knowledge and skill level (a self-paced, learner-controlled design that supports differentiated instruction within a single classroom).

Learning is reinforced through interactive assessments, including image-matching activities and definition-selection questions, giving students multiple opportunities to demonstrate and check their own understanding of key concepts and vocabulary.

The goal throughout was to move beyond static instruction and create a hands-on, exploratory experience that keeps STEM learners engaged while building genuine technical competency.

Slice Smarter:

A Guide to 3D Printing Success

This Articulate Storyline course was designed to help college-level architecture students develop proficiency in Cura slicing software through interactive simulations and guided demonstrations, transforming a technical software process into an engaging, self-directed digital learning experience.

The course focuses on two core learning goals:

  • Navigate Cura's interface and understand key slicing functions

  • Identify and troubleshoot common issues encountered during the slicing process

Learning is built around two branching pathways, allowing students to simulate slicing either a massing model or a building. This branching design provides learners with opportunities to apply their knowledge to different architectural model types while experiencing a realistic slicing workflow.

Learning is reinforced through screencasts, visual callouts, and interactive assessments that guide students through software navigation and decision-making. These elements provide targeted support while encouraging active participation and minimizing cognitive overload.

The goal throughout was to move beyond passive software demonstrations and create an interactive, application-focused experience that builds students' confidence in using Cura independently and troubleshooting slicing issues before submitting their models for 3D printing.
